While Bockbiers tend to be hefty winter lagers with a color of deep mahogany to dark, the Maibock (Mai is German for May) is brilliantly amber. It is the perfect transition beer for the brief time in spring when it is already too light to hide in the dark recesses of a beer hall, but still too nippy to linger outside in a beer garden with a mug of Helles. While the ABV of this strong spring brew is a bock-like 7.2 %, the body is lean, and the finish is surprisingly refreshing. The taste is a pleasant balance between a solid maltiness from Barke® malts with deep genetic roots in classic barley varieties and a gently aromatic bitterness from classic noble hop landraces.

Pair this beer with hearty German dishes, including grilled bratwurst, cold cut sandwiches, and strong, ripe cheeses.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast

It is the classic straw blond quaffing lager for all occasions, from quenching a summer thirst to washing down a many-course meal. Its stable snow-white crown of foam and its gentle bouquet of grainy malt and herbal hop notes beckons the drinker to take a first sip. On the palate, Helles is slender and crisp, with a perfect balance of clean maltiness and noble hoppiness and it finishes dry, with next to no residual sweetness. Instead, there is a lingering, gentle bitterness and a very mild and refreshing acidity.

This brew goes with any dish but is particularly well suited as a liquid companion to delicatessen sandwiches, salads, light sea food or grilled chicken.

This Franconian specialty shines in beautiful shades of amber and cooper. The fine smoke aroma is elegantly embedded into the pleasant notes of caramel malt that remind you of toffee, biscuit and honey. The harmony of smoke and sweetness is perfectly balanced by the subtle use of hops. Our Rauch is a real pleaser.

It pairs perfectly with hearty Franconian meals, such as Schäuferla (= roast pork shoulder), or with fresh Camembert.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast

The beautiful golden color of the beer and the long-lasting head of foam create the perfect first impression. In the nose and on the palate, the Barke® reveals its rich glory. There are notes of straw, grain, and light toffee riding on a surprisingly substantial mouthfeel. The hop bitterness is mild, as is typical in a well-balanced lager with great drinkability.

As a culinary companion, this beer goes well with tuna or chicken, or with a light salad.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast

It was once the cornerstone of the portfolio of the Bamberger Hofbräu brewery, which was founded in 1885. The brewery closed its doors in 1977.

Barke® has deep and rich malt aromas reminiscent of hay, straw, cereals, and toffee, as well as superior processing characteristics in both the malt and the brew house. In the Bamberger Hofbräu Pils, the typical Barke® aromas commingle well with the noble bitterness and the herbal, floral, and fruity aromas of hops. The beer ́s finish is slightly viniferous with notes of herbs and citrus.

Because of its complexity, this lager goes equally well with delicate white fish baked with herbs and lemon slices and with hearty sour milk cheeses and raw onions.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast

The aroma ranges from the typical notes of our Barke® Pilsner malt to notes of toffee and soft honey as well as the slight scent of red berries and apricots. The first impression on the palate brings forth the malty, aromatic character of the beer. The interplay of our specialty malts and the lager ́s mild hoppiness lends our “Rotbier” its high drinkability.

Flavors of red fruits and prunes in the finish make this Franconian “Brotzeit” with cut meats and cheese as well as with savory grilled dishes.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast

The beer has a chestnut-brown color, topped with a beige head. Already before the first sip, malty, caramel-like aromas fill the nose - combined with notes of dried fruit. Wonderful caramel components can be found in the taste, followed by nutty aromas that match the color. A hint of fine residual sweetness remains on the finish with the aforementioned aromas coming from the Weyermann® Barke® malt used. The result is a dark lager of exceptional drinkability.

Bamberger Hofbräu Bayrisch Dunkel is a harmonious accompaniment to Schäuferla, plum cake or a typical bavarian Brotzeit. Our insider tip is to use it as a base for a dark beer sauce for roasts.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast

We have followed up the old tradition of Bamberger Hofbräu and re-brewed the well-known Exquisator according to historical recipes. In the glass, the strong bock shines in dark maroon colors, crowned by fine-pored, beige foam. A delightful combination of caramel, malt notes, and roasted chestnuts, is perfectly rounded up by slihtly herbal notes of the hops. The initial taste is warming, then the rich bock beer embeds itself into the malty-aromatic body and induces to drink more – thanks to its well-balanced composition of hops. Back in the Middle Ages the friars already knew “Liquida non frangunt ieunum” – Latin for “liquids do not break the rule of lent”.

A perfect beer for lent, though, which seduces to break the rules and have a typical Franconian “Schäuferla” (pig shoulder) with it.

Ingredients: Water, Weyermann® barley malt, hops, yeast
