Buch: Bier, Brauereien und Wirtshäuser in Franken

Hg. Fränkische Arbeitsgemeinschaft e.V., EOS Verlag St. Ottilien, 2. Auflage 2026

Beer, breweries, and taverns, together with their associated product and pleasure advertising, are part of our cultural history. This applies especially to Franconia but also to other European regions. Advertising, as the example of “Veldensteiner” from Neuhaus an der Pegnitz shows, can indeed be stimulating as part of a new cultural history (“Try it, then you’ll feel it!”).

In a well‑founded and innovative manner, eight authors shape their contributions to the now ninth FAG brochure. Chronologically, they range from the Middle Ages to the present. In terms of content, they open up a broad panorama that extends from the oldest breweries in Franconia to the role of taverns and mills, brewing rights, the malt and hops trade, and political beer conflicts, all the way to the structural transformation of the beer landscape during industrialization and the ensuing global globalization.
Typical beer cities such as Bamberg, Bayreuth, Fürth, or Kulmbach naturally play a special role.
With contributions by Günter Dippold, Christoph Gunkel, Thomas J. Hagen, Marina Heller, Christian Kestel, Astrid Schneck, Birgit Speckle, and Wolfgang Wüst.
